Brain Power Up! Fun Ways to Take Brain Breaks for Optimal Brain Health!


Let's face it, our brains work hard!  

Whether you're tackling deadlines at the office, mastering new skills with friends, or keeping up with energetic kids, our brains need a break to stay sharp and function at their best.  

World Brain Health Day is a perfect reminder to prioritize these mental mini-vacations.  

The good news?  Brain breaks don't have to be long or complicated.  Here are some fun and easy activities to incorporate into your day, no matter the setting:


At the Office:

𝑯𝒊𝒈𝒉 𝑭𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝑭𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒛𝒚: Spread some positivity!  Start by high-fiving someone at another table.  Watch the high fives ripple through the office, creating a quick mood boost.

𝑨𝒍𝒑𝒉𝒂𝒃𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝑨𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒔:  Line up quickly in alphabetical order by first name.  This simple activity gets the blood flowing and sparks a little laughter.

𝑶𝒏𝒆-𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒅 𝑾𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓: Challenge everyone to describe their current mood in just one word.  The variety of responses will be surprising! 

𝑺𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑺𝒖𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔: Take a minute to stretch your body as high, low, and wide as you can.  This improves circulation and increases focus.



With Friends and Colleagues

𝑨𝒏𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒍 𝑨𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒔: Get your inner child out!   Take turns acting out the animal someone calls out.  Bonus points for creativity and silliness!

𝑫𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝑰𝒕 𝑶𝒖𝒕: Blast some music and show off your best (or worst!) dance moves.  Guaranteed laughter and stress relief.

𝑭𝒂𝒄𝒕 𝑭𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒛𝒚: Partner up and spend a minute learning three new things about each other.  This fosters connection and stimulates the brain.

𝑺𝒖𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒑𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓 𝑺𝒉𝒐𝒘𝒅𝒐𝒘𝒏: Everyone share their dream superpower and why they'd choose it.  This is a fun way to spark conversation and imagination.


With Family:

𝑫𝒂𝒃 𝑫𝒂𝒃 𝑫𝒂𝒃:  Put on some music and have a dance party!  Throw in some dabbing for an extra dose of fun.

𝑬𝒙𝒆𝒓𝒄𝒊𝒔𝒆 𝑬𝒙𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒗𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒏𝒛𝒂: Complete a quick round of stretches and star jumps together.  This is a great way to burn off energy and improve coordination.

𝑶𝒃𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒄𝒍𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒆 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆:  Set up an obstacle course in your living room or backyard.  Time each other and have a playful competition.

𝑴𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑴𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕:  Put on some calming music and practice quiet meditation together.  Even a few minutes can promote relaxation and focus.



At School:

𝑺𝒖𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒐 𝑴𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒔:  Challenge the class to show off their best superhero poses or dance moves.  This is a great way to get wiggles out and channel creativity.

𝑱𝒐𝒈 𝒊𝒏 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆:  Get the heart rate up with a quick jog in place for a minute.  This helps oxygenate the brain and refocuses attention. 

𝑺𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑨𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝑺𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒃𝒊𝒓𝒅:  Choose a song and belt it out together!  Singing is a fun and social activity that strengthens memory and mood.

𝑵𝒊𝒏𝒋𝒂 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈:  Clear some space and let the kids practice their ninja moves.  This encourages physical activity and improves coordination. 


Remember:

Keep it short and sweet. Aim for 2-5 minute breaks throughout the day. 

Tailor the activities to the group. Choose age-appropriate and engaging options. 

Make it a routine. Schedule brain breaks into your day to ensure they happen consistently.

The key is to find activities that are fun, engaging, and help you step away from the mental grind.
